Weekly Updates!

As any new information is discovered we will keep you up to date right here. Prescription Drug Abuse is growing issue with scattered information and statistics. We will source out current information and do our best to keep you up to date on this issue.

By continuing to educate ourselves, we can start to knock this issue out at the main source, our homes. If we have better security for our own medications and destroy old prescriptions, we can begin to wipe out the source of where young people are getting most of the products.

If you have any ideas of comments to share about your own experiences please do not hesitate to do so. By continuing to discuss this problem we can work together and stop it from growing!

Testimonials

“I wanted to get involved with this project because I have lost a family member to an accidental drug overdose, and almost lost a second family member during a suicide attempt using prescription drugs. I am also a mother and one of my biggest fears is losing one of my children, so I want to help raise awareness about this issue in the hopes that it will help not only my own family, but other people's as well”.

"I have seen many of my childhood friends go from experimenting with drugs and having a good time to full on prescription drug abuse. In my observations this transition in behaviour happens between the ages of 14-18 and I am noticing that it is affecting more and more children in my community. The medication that they abuse is either prescribe by a doctor or found in their homes. I feel that prescription medication has become a chemical restraint that numbs the problem rather that threat the problem with methods such as Rational Emotive Therapy."

“When observing Moose Factory, the adults are abusing prescription drugs. This issue has not reached the younger generation. This project is important to me because I want Moose Factory to be a healthy community. In order to have a healthy community, it has to have healthy people. Our group is trying to help people be healthy by preventing the youth from abusing prescription drugs. Creating awareness is key to prevention. By creating awareness of this issue to their parents, I feel that they can contribute by disposing their unwanted prescription drugs at our local police departments”.

“Because our medical system gives prescriptions out too readily, children with behavioural problems are being given pills to hide their problems, not to cure them. We are conditioning our children to become comfortable with prescriptions. When they see other prescriptions in the medicine cabinet at home, they are believing that those are safe as well. Return and Destroy Your Unneeded Prescriptions NOW!”

“I wanted to get involved in this project because I myself have seen what an addiction to Prescription drugs can do to a person. I have watched what seems to be an innocent way of having fun turn into a daily struggle of trying to cope with the addiction. I Think everyone need to be more aware of the danger that these types of pills can bring, and people need to recognized the dangers that they keep in the cupboards in their homes everyday”.
